I recently ordered the Johnny 5 brick building set from BuildingBoat, and I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. The set is remarkably similar to name brand brick building sets in terms of quality & design. The easy-to-follow instructions made the assembly a breeze, and the end result is fantastic. It made me reminisce my childhood days watching Short Circuit with my Dad & shouting "Johnny 5 Is Alive!". I highly recommend this set to any brick builder & enthusiast or robot fan. It also makes a great gift for those who loved the movie! It's a great value for the price, and very happy to add to my brick building collection! It's A Very Solid 5 Stars!

I'd love to give this set five stars because a Johnny 5 Lego set is an inspired idea, but I have to limit it to four because the execution isn't quite there. I'm about half way through the build right now, done with the head and upper torso, and I've just spent a frustrating 15 minutes trying to secure the head to the body without dislodging a piece from elsewhere. It isn't *terribly* designed, but there are several weak points at this part of the model that make it incredibly easy to accidentally separate a piece if you put pressure in the wrong (but required) place. The head itself is ultimately attached to the torso by just two studs of a Lego brick (plus a couple of plastic cables, but they're just decorative). Unfortunately these weak points will remain once the model is finished, so I know that every time I need to move the robot to dust a shelf I'll likely break off a piece at the lightest touch. It's a little frustrating.

This kit is a "Lego" style kit. It's really nice. All of the pieces are small and not prebuilt. This is a good thing for people who enjoy building Lego models. Once built, it looks verry authentic to the original movie character. I would suggest gluing the pieces together while you build it. It can be quite complicated to get it back together if you knock it off of your kitchen table while reaching for a drink. Ask me how I know...

Interesting item, picked it up because its from a very popular movie from my childhood. Comes with a book with pictures explaining exactly how to assemble it. I'll probably put it together and place it on a shelf somewhere or inside my computer case. If your an 80's kid and remember the movie really well I would suggest you pick it up if that's something you into.

This is a pretty good set overall. I do not recommend this as a play set. Just a display piece. The instructions are great. The piece quality is alright. It’s not bad just not Lego quality, but still not bad at all. The pieces are separated into two bag sets. I think it would have been better to have at least 3 sets. Looks decently accurate, looks good on a shelf. Stay together decently. Some parts better than others. Box art is good. I don’t recommend me this for a kid. But this would be good for an adult

Wow! The memories came flooding back when I saw this figure. I remember watching the movie way back when, and when I saw this figure, I just had to give it a try. There are 386 pieces to this set, but don't let that dissuade you from giving the assembly a go. The assembly manual breaks down step by step on putting everything together. The illustrations for the assembly directions were spot on for the most part, and there were only a couple of times when I had to back track because something didn't look right. After everything was assembled, it is amazing to see the versatility that this figure provides! You can move its hands, arms, torso, face pieces, the appendages, and even the tracks it sits on. The bags for assembly come marked for upper, and lower, assemblies, and the way they're displayed in the manual for the most part makes them easy to identify. It didn't take too long to get this put together, and it was so rewarding to see Johnny 5 come alive!

I rated this 2 because it states for boys 8-12. Children are curious beings. I have granddaughters that eat and breathe this stuff. If you want to reach more parents and children you might try using “for children 8-12”. I am very aware of how things are presented and tend not to buy less inclusive items. Thank you for the unique robot but I may not be back. If I was less aware I might take you at your word for it that the robot was ONLY for boys. That eliminates daughters, granddaughters, and nieces or any female from your customer range. Now that is sad. Thank You for your time.
For his 10th birthday, I gave my nephew this Johnny 5 Robot Building Set. He is a big fan of robots and Lego, so this was an ideal gift for him. He couldn't wait to open the box and see the Johnny 5 model. He followed the instructions and started to build it right away. He completed it in about two hours and showed me his amazing creation. The robot is very detailed and realistic, just like the one from the movie Short Circuit. It has movable parts like arms, legs, head, and laser. My nephew enjoyed playing with it and making it do hilarious things.
